The Fall of Academia

Some nitwit at Marquette's Philosophy department (perhaps Prof. South?) ordered that a poster with the following text be taken down from the doorway of a grad-student:

“As Americans we must always remember that we all have a common enemy, an enemy that is dangerous, powerful, and relentless. I refer, of course, to the federal government.”

The author was NOT Ron Reagan, nor GWBush (heaven forfend!!) nor Dick Cheney, nor Karl Rove. Not Limbaugh, not Sykes, not Belling.

Nope.

Althought the quote is clearly reminiscent of GKChesterton, Mark Twain, Will Rogers, or Mencken, it is from Dave Barry.

Dave Barry!!!

Whichever Nitwit-With-Authority ordered the removal of this "offensive" remark is also sadly un-schooled in Chesterton, to wit: "Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly."

A School of Philosophy without a sense of humor is like a car without wheels. Non-functional.
