The Middle East Mess

This fellow certainly makes bellicose statements, eh?

"[T]o those countries who claim that we are using disproportionate force, I have only this to say: You're damn right we are." said Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Dan Gillerman.

Lots of The Commentariat folks make the case that Hizbollah plays dirty--which they certainly do. So Israel drops leaflets telling citizens of Lebanon to evacuate; that there will be bombing.

Seems fair. And our Commentariat of the Right makes SURE that we think "Well, that's fair enough..."

Really? Think about it.

Somebody bombs the living crap out of I-94 westbound, the airport, the Milwaukee Road depot and the nearby bus station, takes out all the fuel-storage tanks surrounding Milwaukee--and then drops leaflets telling the remaining people to leave town immediately--that more bombing will follow.

So you casually call some hotel in the Dells and announce you'll be there with the kids for, say, the next several months? Or are you "prepared" for this, having the tents, freeze-dried chow, stored fuel, batteries, water, etc., allowing you to just move in to a State Park--for several months--where you'll shoot and prepare your own meat, grow and process your own veggies?

Or do you call Aunt Martha in St Cloud to tell her you'll be bringing the kids for a stay, maybe a year or so? What if Aunt Martha's OWN children already took the spare bedroom?

Of course, you have $50K in cash and/or precious metals easily available to pay for whatever, right?

"Everyone in southern Lebanon is a terrorist and is connected to Hezbollah," roared Israeli Justice Minister Haim Ramon on July 27.

"Every village from which a Katyusha is fired must be destroyed," bellowed an Israeli general in a quote bannered by the nation's largest newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth.

Sometimes one wonders if The Commentariat actually lives in the real world. I doubt it.

What would you do if your home were attached? You talk as if you would be out in front with guns blazing.

Universal statements are almost always a problem.

And what used to be tepid support of Hizb Allah is now solidifying into the usual rabid fanaticism. How often did the sword solve a problem? Will the killing solve the problem this time?

We have two parties with spiritually intractable positions. They are defending those positions in a never-ending war where the attrition never gets beyond the replacement rate of belligerents. This will guarantee a conflict that cannot be ended, as the orphans take up their fathers' swords, to be passed on to their own orphaned sons.

JP, I don't understand your comment.

Do you mean "attacked" or "attached"? There's a REALLY big difference...

What I meant was that our Commentariat (Limbaugh, Belling) seem to think that 'leaving town for a few months' is merely a walk in the park.

They're full of shit.

The only other option given Israel is destruction.

Dad;

Would you get your guns out if your home was attached?

JP, the term "attached" may mean 'used as security'--which means a mortgage--or 'taken in lieu of payment'--which means foreclosure.

I'll guess you actually mean either of the above, and tell you that I will not shoot someone who "attaches" my home.

What the hell does that have to do with the discussion at hand?
