Yesterday, the Archdiocese of Detroit removed Fr. Perrone from active ministry at his parish, Assumption Grotto.  According to the announcement, it was due to a single 'credible' charge of abuse; the charge was about an incident alleged to have happened 40 years ago and was a "repressed memory."

"Repressed memory" events were a topic 10+ years ago, and a psychiatrist friend of ours laughed out loud when the topic was brought up.  To her--a clinical, not a professor--that was like "Harvey," the rabbit-pal of Jimmy Stewart.  She wasn't alone in that opinion, either.

I'm not a fan of polls in general; take it for what it's worth.  What IS interesting is that Trump's policies are well-supported, and majorities support even more conservative positions than those taken by Trump.

The news article is slightly unclear.  Is 'the local diocese' that of Juarez or El Paso?  If it's El Paso, this is Bp. Seitz, and frankly, nothing Bishop Seitz does would surprise me.

First Things First: Cdl. Burke (UPDATED)

N.B.:  A friend emailed to suggest an update, given a new LifeSite item on this matter.

The rift between Cdl. Burke and Steve Bannon is not hard to explain.  For a time, they had been allies in a proposed school for political reformers.  However, when Bannon met with the author of a tell-all on the Vatican Gay Mafia (which may be at least partially-'fake news') the Cardinal backed out.  That's because to +Burke, the Church is first, and politics is a distinct second.

Martel reported that Bannon told him during their encounter that, “if the majority of bishops are either homophile or gay”, there are “no solutions to change the Church without changing profoundly her doctrine on celibacy, chastity and marriage”. Bannon has since clarified that he does not believe married priests are the solution to the vocations crisis or the abuse scandal. But Burke said he found it “objectionable” for Bannon to call into question “the Church’s discipline of perpetual continence for the clergy”.

Bannon is a bright guy with excellent political skills.  But as a Catholic?  Not so much.  [Ed:  that's by his own admission in the LifeSite item.]  Frankly, Bannon stepped off the cliff when he took Martel's word about the pervasiveness of homosexuality among Bishops.  After all, Martel is a notorious homosexual and we all know that homosexuals always inflate the numbers in their favor--that is, they want the world to think that it's 10% queer, when it's really less than 5%.

But even if it's as bad as Martel claims, so what?  There are no scheduled 'elections' for Bishop upcoming, are there?

+Burke, a serious player in Canon Law, knows that the Church's legal structure places the Pope as chief lawmaker, judge, and jury.  Further, the Bishops are regents in their Dioceses.  Them's the rules, like it or not.  The laity holds two significant powers:  prayer and sacrifice, and The Purse.  Yes, the laity can get in the faces of Bishops and be less than polite.  That's about it.  Bannon apparently thinks that a bunch of grass-roots organizing and 'populist' cage-rattling will take down foundational Canon Law.  He's nuts.

Bannon's next serious error came when he proclaimed that the only solution for the homosex problem is for the Church to 'profoundly change her doctrine' on matters sexual.  Bannon may well be a brilliant political strategist, but he's a ding-a-ling in matters of moral theology.  UPDATE:  In an interview with LifeSite News, Bannon said this:

 Married priests are not the solution to the sexual abuse scandal

To War or Not? The Progressive Answer(s)

Perhaps it's coincidence, but Tom Clancy said there is no such thing....

Anyhow, Peter gave us a short excerpt from Angelo Codevilla wherein Codevilla describes the transformation of American foreign policy with specific regard to war.

The shape of U.S. foreign policy for most of the 20th century and into our own time was set by Progressive Republican statesmen, Elihu Root and Henry L. Stimson. They believed that military action should be pursued, if at all, for international peace and order, not to advance specifically American interests.

The "America First" movement, opposed to GloboWar-for-Peace, arose and attracted men such as J. F. Kennedy, Lindbergh, and Gerry Ford, who opposed 'internationalism' in the '30's.  P J Buchanan carried the "America First" banner in the recent past, and to some extent, Trump has carried it forward and has given the movement new life and legitimacy.  That represents a solid defeat for the NeoCon GloboWarmonger bunch which infested the Weekly Standard, the State Department, and much of the military establishment, (not to mention military suppliers.)

All this confusion brought an interesting reaction from Soros and the Koch Boyzzzz.

+Cupich, Clever Forgetter

Whatever else he may be, Cdl Cupich is a clever forgetter.  Forgetfulness is important to making his ideological--but non-sensical--case for Open Borders.  So he forgets damn near all of human history happening between 400 BC and today.  Convenient, yes.  Sensible?  Nope.

The Cardinal "forgot" that the Catholic Church is not ancient Israel (otherwise she would not be called the "NEW" Israel, see??)

+Cupich also "forgot" that the world of the O.T. was not the world of today.  There were no passports, no established 'borders,' and where there were 'nation-states', they were tribal, not idea-based.  In fact, the concept of "citizen" didn't really develop until (at the earliest) the city-states of Greece, or perhaps as late as the 1700's.  Even then, look at Europe, Africa, and Asia; it's very easy to see the boundaries established by tribes, even though they have become modern-day 'nation-states.'

Most important, +Cupich "forgot" that the Jews of the O.T. operated under the Law of Moses, which was not just the Ten Commandments.  This is significant because the Law of Moses (the shellfish-and-pork stuff) was explicitly jettisoned by Christ, while at the same time He retained the Big Ten.

Ideologues of all stripes tend to 'forget' things which seriously weaken their case.  In this instance, there IS no "case" for open borders, so +Cupich attempts to blind you with foo-foo dust.  After all, he's gotten away with that for years.
