We've seen all sorts of *stuff* about the diesel price problem. Two things stand out: 1) the US actually refines MORE diesel than it uses. And 2) Europe is desperate for diesel.
... At the heart of the problem is the fact that Europe won’t purchase cheap Russian diesel as they did before the start of the war in Ukraine. Instead, Europe now relies on the Middle East and the US for it’s supply. According to recent figures, the Middle East produces roughly 40% of Europe’s diesel imports while the U.S. now accounts for 50%. But as a result of the war in Iran, however, Middle Eastern infrastructure has been damaged, and energy flow through the Strait of Hormuz has slowed considerably. Without cheap Russian energy as an option and with limited Middle Eastern output, Europe has placed immense demand on U.S. diesel inventories. That, in turn, has driven up domestic diesel prices in the United States. And since Trump doesn’t have the diplomatic skills to immediately end the hostilities in the Middle East, supply pressure will continue to inflate the diesel market, at least in the near term....
The proposal that Trump should ban export of diesel becomes very interesting in light of the above, but you can bet your net worth that Big Oil is throwing a lot of........ahh..........incentives at Trump & Co. about such a ban.

It’s Trump’s War. He can put an end to it. Why doesn’t he?
Meanwhile….
Iowa radio host Steve Deace just unleashed an extraordinary social media screed. He confided that GOP pollsters have informed House Republicans that GOP +15 districts are now straight toss-ups, and GOP +10 districts are now “underwater.” He said he regrets this deeply—he badly wants Donald Trump to succeed—but critically, he also declared bluntly that Trump and his Iran war are fully to blame for this fiasco. In a serious humiliation for Trump, he sharply criticized the war’s rationale and warned that this is “risking what’s left of the Trump presidency.”
Venezuela’s Cardon Oil refinery, the country’s second largest at 310,000 barrels per day, has just unexpectedly exploded and caught fire, forcing a full shutdown.
The fire started at a gas line connecting the refinery’s diesel hydrotreater and halted the whole plant, including the boilers, eight sources told Reuters.

Germany: Military Service Sees Massive Surge in Conscientious Objectors
https://newsfire.gr/en/military-service-sees-massive-surge-in-conscientious-objectors/
…….Applications for conscientious objector status in Germany more than tripled in the first eight months of this year compared to all of 2024, with 12,102 requests filed amid new military registration efforts…..
…Between January and August, the Federal Office for Family Affairs and Civil Society Functions received a total of 12,102 applications for exemption from military service on grounds of conscience. A spokesperson for the office told RND that half of these applications were submitted in July and August alone. The figures represent a striking increase: while the entire year of 2024 saw 2,249 applications, and 2025 recorded 3,879, the first eight months of this year have already generated more than three times the total for all of 2024.
