The Kirk Bullet

We have been skeptical of the narrative on the Kirk assassination.  The FBI released new information today on the bullet.  Hmmmm......

We continue to think that the accused is a patsy.

Initial reports were that the killer used a K-98 Mauser re-barreled to .30-06.  That is a very powerful round, so the story that 'it could not penetrate Kirk's spine' at the neck was .........interesting.  A friend reminded me that the power of the round may have been altered by 'short-filling'--that is, using less powder or a different powder formulation than the typical load for that round.

That's a real possibility, as the FBI's release confirms the bullet was .30-06.

But when one alters the powder load one alters the ballistics, therefore the zero of the sights.  So:  either the shooter re-sighted the weapon for the short-load OR the rifle's owner was using short-loads and the sights had been adjusted accordingly.  Either way, the shooter had to have had at least a few hours' range-time to hone his skill.

Entirely possible?  Yes.  Entirely likely?  Hmmmmmm...........

So he's deranged and a very good marksman using altered rounds in a rifle sighted for those alterations.

OK, then....

You assume he was AIMING for the neck.

Going from 2700 fps down to 2000 fps would add about 8-9 inches of drop at that distance.

Especially if it was older ammo, it could have just been a round that degraded.
