As mentioned previously:
The U.S. Catholic bishops have told the pastors of all the Catholic churches in America to insert a flyer in their church bulletin and read a statement at every Mass, informing their congregations that the health care bills now before Congress allow abortion-funding and must be opposed unless amended to specifically prohibit such funding.
That directive was issued on October 29th (last Thursday.) It got zero attention at two west-suburban parishes over the weekend.

It was not mentioned at the parish we attended, either (which wasn't our normal parish). We were, however, not surprised.
I was a little disappointed to learn from my mom that no mention of it was made at our regular parish, however.
It wasn't mentioned at the Lutheran Church we attend in Mequon either.
Nothing at St. Martin of Tours in Franklin. No insert in the bulletin either.
Going into one of those west suburban parishes on 11/8. You should know parishes didn't even get the document until the last couple of days.
The letter was available for download (PDF) and print on 10/29.
happy to hear it's coming!!!!
St. Josephat's had it in their bulletin. The priest at the noon Mass spoke about it in the announcements and encouraged the congregation to call Congress.
It was available online for download, but parishes had to wait for some directives from the archdiocese as well. Add in the time it takes to print, etc, some parishes had to wait an extra week to get it in.

Cough. Please....
Are you telling us that Barbara Cusack & Co. are standing between pastors and their flocks? That the USCCB directive was not sufficiently informative?
It takes about 20 minutes to run off 1000 copies at Kinko's. Then you go to the grade school, impress the entire 8th grade into forced labor, and stuff them into bulletins.
It's an afternoon's project, top to bottom. By the time you're done, Cusack would have returned your call and told you to do exactly what I just did.
Are churches involved in politics?
No, John. Churches are involved in faith. When politics creates policies that threaten that faith, it is the duty of the Church to defend her teachings...in this case, against the funding of abortion and stripping of conscience clauses.
