More Genuine Heroes

The more one reads about the Amish school incident, the more one is humbled.

But as the Amish were burying their dead, there was also talk of heroics. Marian Fisher, 13, is said to have stepped forward and asked her killer to "shoot me first," in an apparent effort to buy time for her schoolmates.

Rita Rhoads, a Mennonite midwife who delivered two of the victims, told ABC News she learned of the girl's plea from her family. What's more, her younger sister, Barbie, who survived the shooting, allegedly asked the gunman, Charles Carl Roberts IV, to "shoot me second," Rhoads said.

This, in addition to the fact that the Amish have taken up a collection for the benefit of the widow and children of the shooter....

They are a prime example of forgiveness and selflessness.

I feel for them, as I feel for the family of the murderer.

They surely show more ability to forgive that animal than I can. I have great admiration for the entire community.

The Amish are providing a very sharp contrast between their concept of justice, and John Q. Flagwaver's. It bears some thought, and prayer, upon.
