All y'all know that Meta, Twitter, Stripe, and Lyft (among others) are laying off scads of people. Meta (Facebook) alone is pushing 11,000 into the gutter.
That's only the "big names" in Silicon Valley. There are others, and then there are those who supplied stuff to them, such as the bodyshops, the headhunters, the food-service types, vending-machine fillers., car-service operators, hotel/motel employees, dog-walkers and even school district employees; there are thousands.
Most of the Meta and Twitter rejects are described here:
...Many "unicorn" tech startups began with a few engineers and a product they wanted to sell, but over the past decade-plus, they have accrued a bloated bureaucracy of "equity"-minded h.r. activists, ESG-savvy consultants, affinity-group mavens, climate-change specialists, and many other email-caste hangers-on. Now that times are turning bad, tech companies can no longer afford to sustain a massive "court" of professional-class nobility, paying sinecures to sons and daughters of the good and the great who don't know how to code or crunch numbers, but know how to write emails, hold useless meetings, and talk about diversity and inclusion....
And........AND...........they spent a lot of money electing Democrats. But now they won't have money for Democrats, or any other useless causes such as whales, snails, and ox-tails.
There will be a total of 100,000 layoffs out there and in other 'Silicon Valleys' nationwide. At a nominal $1,000.00 each of contributions to various socialist revolutionary communist causes ............that's a lot of moola.
