Here's a map of The Situation. The Russki troops are in the bright red areas. Click to embiggen...and if you're not familiar with Cyrillic, here's the guide: Top Left corner: Poland. Top Center: Byelorussia. Right Top: Russia. Center: the turkey that's being carved. See the arrow going straight south in about the middle of the turkey? It's pointed directly at Kiev. Bottom Left: Romania. Bottom Center: Moldova. South of the southernmost red area is the Black Sea, and you see that Odessa--the turkey's only remaining Black Sea port--is now between two red (Red Army) areas.
One other item of note you'll find in this column: Putin framed this as a fight against a neo-Nazi nation--an existential crisis for Russia. That happens to be a re-play of "Alexander Nevskyy", a story used by Stalin in exactly the same fashion, where Nevskyy, the Prince, saved Russia (and--by the way--Ukraine) from the Huns back in the day. Set to music by Prokofiev--and shortly to be banned by All the Very Correct and Good People, I suppose.
