Substituting for Mark Belling (whose view on this matter is NOT like Jerry's), Mr. Bott has gone crazy, denouncing the President for "STUPID!!!" tariff moves on steel and aluminum.
Jerry's first problem is that he has no foggy idea of where the steel and aluminum comes from. He thinks it's Canada and Mexico (respectively.)
No, Jerry. You are mis-informed. The steel comes from Red China; Canada merely acts as a "fence." Same with the aluminum--Mexico acts as a 'fence' for Communist stuff. (Yes, there IS one Canadian steel mill which produces metal for US car makers.)
Odd, is it not, that there is another Canadian steel mill--which is closed. Guess why? Manipulated ChiCom prices, Jerry.
Oh, yes, prices will go up. Yup. About $300.00 on a new car. Last month, the average transaction price (selling price) of a new car in the US was just north of $31,000.00. That $300.00 will REALLY make a difference, Jerry.
Will the Mexicans stop importing US corn? And starve their people, Jerry?? Really??
For whatever reason--and it's not a good one--you seem to think that sacrificing American workers is better than responding to Chinese (and other governments) manipulation of currency, subsidization of production costs, and slave labor. So you'll KO that American worker for about 2 cents' cost on a 6-pack of beer, eh?
Who is YOUR neighbor in Brookfield, Jerry? A ChiCom tycoon?
Oh--one more thing, Jerry. Tariffs are not a "1930's" solution. Tariffs financed the entire US Government from the time of the founding right up until Congress found a way to steal money from US citizens through the income tax. That's about 150 years.
At least you didn't repeat that Old Lie about Smoot-Hawley. If you had, you'd look Stupid, ya'know.
