It's been quite some time, so it was very nice to get back outside and onto a gun range.
Especially when that included giving elementary gun-training to young boys, ages 6-12 or so.
Natch, it was SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY; the boys were pretty good about that. A number of adults worked on coaching the kids and--with iron sights--they were able to land the majority of their bullets on paper. Perhaps 5 of the 30+ kids had ever used a rifle before.
We used a mixture of weapons. There were three new-in-box tube-fed .22 Savage bolts, a WWII-vintage wooden-stocked semi-auto .22 (no manufacturer's name could be found), a child-sized .22 bolt, single-round, and a targetized Ruger semi with bull barrel, jeweled trigger, and 3X9 scope.
The kids enjoyed it and we'll be back for more when it's a little warmer. Next time, we will work a little harder on target skills.

The manufacturer of the WWII-era rifle was actually Savage Arms; the same manufacturer of the three out-of-the-box rifles. It was pretty cool to see the same rifles, about 80 years apart in age, still functioning the same!
