They Read This Blog!

Rasmussen:

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Voters finds that 66% believe cutting taxes is a better way to create new jobs than increasing government spending. That’s up seven points from January.

Just 18% think increasing government spending is the better way to go. Another 16% are not sure.

Yup.

It's the SPENDING, STUPID!

Then they should be pleased to know that a substantial portion of the ARRA was tax cuts.

And I'm sure these people are aware that new tax cuts will not boost employment enough to offset the revenue shortfall created by the tax cuts. In other words, cutting taxes, at current rates, is simply a different way of deficit spending.

So again........it's not just the spending stupid. It's more complicated than that. Complicated enough that it won't fit on a protest sign unfortunately.

It IS the spending when one considers multiple programs aimed at the same end.

It IS the spending when one considers (for only 10 seconds) the Bureau of Indian Affairs' charge vs. results.

It IS the spending when one considers the multiplication of bureaucrats, often required due to inane regulation.

And as you very well know, a 'temporary' tax cut is NOT a long-range planning enhancement.

We may actually agree (in VERY general terms) that further tax cuts at the Fed level will be unproductive. Laffer's curve starts someplace, after all.

But we will NOT agree that 'stimulus' has worked for anything other than preservation of Gummint employees; and I remind you that THAT is "spending."

We haven't been on the left side of Laffer's curve for decades.
