City of LaCrosse Skips "Mental Health Parity"

Woodman's is no longer alone.*

La Crosse has become one of the first cities in Wisconsin — if not the first — to duck a new federal law designed to make insurance coverage for mental illness equal to coverage provided for other health problems.

...it turns out that a provision in the landmark legislation [Wellstone-Domenici] allows cities and other local governments to simply opt out of the law, which is what the city of La Crosse has decided to do.

The Legislature may pass a law requiring mental health parity which would complement the Federal law and force the City of LaCrosse to offer parity.

*Many businesses are self-insured, so they are not covered by Federal "parity" law. Woodman's is NOT self-insured.
