Especially given the broken teleprompter--(you noticed her shuffling her typescript?)--she did a very good job.
Palin had a few objectives. She had to get her story out, clearly and simply. She did that very well. She had to support John McCain, and she hit a homer on that one with the "...only ONE candidate has actually 'fought for you...'" line. She also had to make some policy points, and she mentioned energy and taxes.
Finally, she had to wrap all that into oratory which established her (and McCain) as "one of us."
THERE she hit the grand-slam, and wove all the elements together.
She connected.
She spoke to individuals, not the 'undifferentiated masses.' She spoke to people who are worried about energy security; people with special-needs children; people who are tired of Elites; people who run small businesses; people who are from small towns--and people who are concerned with the ever-growing Government.
And she used a winning personality--not condescending, not holier-than-thou, not screechy--to bring people to her side while convincing them that they are the focus of her concerns and the reason for her interest in the Vice-Presidency.
She delivered the speech well because she OWNED it.

I like this line....
"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities."
... and this one....
"My fellow citizens, the American presidency is not supposed to be a journey of "personal discovery." This world of threats and dangers is not just a community, and it doesn't just need an organizer."
... and that bit about a "personal presidential seal."
Hold onto your hats, it's gonna be a rough, interesting couple of months.
PENALTY PALIN.
TWO MINUTES FOR SLASHING.
I had very high expectations for the Governor's speech, I don't know why, I just did. Her speech blew me away - she owns the bully pulpit.
She has the same gift as the Gipper. She can look Americans in the eye and communicate a message directly to us, bypassing the hostile MSM.
I am also impressed by Palin's old-school progressive credentials. Fightin' Bob would approve of her battling corruption in her own party and taking on big business in favor of her constituents.
NB - Obama should watch Palin and learn proper use of the teleprompter. It isn't: read left - read right, again and again; without ever looking straight ahead (Berlin resembled a tennis match). The teleprompter is to pace the speech and provide a crutch if the words are momentarily lost from the speaker's mind. Last night I saw the slight stumbles and reading over the applause pauses when the prompter was sabotaged. But Gov. Palin recovered like very few ever could.
Another off-the-wall thought, this is a second former sportscaster in Presidential politics. Olbermann will be getting ideas.
I heart Sarah Palin: Her speech was excellent..Obama and the "devoted followers" loved that line. and her mocking of the "guns are religion" line was perfect
The teleprompter did not malfunction, says one guy. But wait, now the righties are claiming hers was different than the ones on the side! OK, kids, let's discuss how teleprompters work...
Teleprompters work much the same way as the waiting room at Pastor Warren's church.
