Sad But True on School Boards

A lot of people who run for their local Board of Education slots are well-meaning.  The 'conservative' candidates run on budget control and brag loudly about saving lots of postage money.  The 'liberal' candidates brag loudly about 'support for faculty' and 'program enhancements' for students.

None of them talk about educational achievement in any meaningful way, or there might be actual educational achievement.  But even with the softball "test" that Wisconsin mandates, "achievement" is sliding south.  And it's not just for the "Covid year."  Look at the years preceding that.  I dareyou.

In short:  Board of Education members don't hold administrations accountable.  They think that administrators know stuff and that education is Magic, and they should just shut up and let Magic happen. (Except for the liberals, who appear to be hoping for the death of Western Civilization.)

Then the proverbial fecal matter hits the rotational device.

Note well:  the Superintendent in Wauwatosa has a questionable background and has stiff-armed requests for documents while continuing to pay a flat-out unethical subordinate $12K/month plus hefty bennies.

At least one Tosa Board member just learned he was flim-flammed:

"The board needs to be embracing more of a healthy skepticism and oversight role - more than what we have been," Meier said, noting that he was speaking generally. "I think we need more watchdog on the board than what we’ve had. And part of that is me doing my job better."

No kidding, Mr. Meier.

There are plenty of rumors floating around the Elmbrook District, going beyond the obscene materials provided to 14-year-old children and the racist "DIE" stuff going on.  In the upcoming Board election, at least one candidate was recruited by the current Superintendent--or so the rumor says.  Wouldn't surprise me at all, as the Superintendent's reputation is that he "protects his teachers" from parents who would like to see education in fundamentals rather than in homosexual practices.

Maybe the Elmbrook Board is paying attention.

Think the voters are?
