Grim Goes to the Movies

The link to Grim's review of Robin Hood is on this page (at the time of this posting, it's the second item.)

Take his review seriously; Grim is a learned guy when it comes to England's history.

Then you have a movie to see. So SEE it!

  1. Sorry I will pass on another Crusades bashing movie. Ridely Scott just could't get it out of his system with Kingdom of Heaven. Plus the portrayal of King Richard is dreadfully not historical.

Which is too bad because I really enjoy Russel Crowe and am normally in the Ridely Scott camp.

  2. There's only one remark about the Crusades that is in opposition; and the point made in that remark is a valid one. It is not at all clear that God would have been pleased by the massacre referenced, which is all that is said.

  3. Also, I don't think I agree with the reading of Kingdom of Heaven in that review you cite. Ridley Scott sets up the Kingdom of Jerusalem under Baldwin as a model state. He believes in religious pluralism -- that Muslims should be free to practice their faith, even under a Christian kingdom, and should be protected from violence. But he also shows the Crusader state while it is under Baldwin, and the Knights of Saint John, in a wholly positive light.
