Yes, You Are the Targets

 Denninger explains a recent scare.

Remember the "scare" a few weeks back when a "new AI Model" was suddenly "restricted" from anyone except "certain trusted people" because it was analyzing codebases and finding serious security problems that had, in some cases, existed for a decade or more?...

So........YOU cannot buy or use this "model" of AI to find serious security problems in--for example--Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, or X.  You also cannot repair such problems.  Only 'trusted peeps' can do so.

Ten years' worth of unsecured data.  Hmmmm.

....Was the problem there the entire decade prior?  Why yes it was.  The problem is the presumption: Nobody else had surfaced that for themselves without the AI and had been exploiting it; why, the only way to find it was the AI!

No it wasn't, and odds are no that's not the truth at all.  In fact
reality is likely that plenty of smart people did know and deliberately did not disclose and fix it.  Why not?  Well that's obvious, right?...

He easily eliminates 'black hat' hackers; they hack for money, and would have monetized the info a long time ago.

Who remains?

...Who has effectively-unlimited resources, employs people to do such things and doesn't need a financial motive to exploit what they find because they have other motives and the capacity to obtain the resources by taking them from others, all "legally"?

Well, duh.

So why the uproar?

Because
that tool democratized the discovery of same and thus will and does drive a fix for said problems which instantly and permanently cuts off their exploitation by everyone, including said infinitely and "lawfully"-funded entities.

That said tool was attempted to be "restricted" tells you precisely who these firms that develop said tools actually work for and their actual intent and it is not to benefit you or anyone else in the general public.
And by the way that attempt was, did and always will fail because the United States is not the only nation with smart people, lots of computers and said effectively-infinite resources....

Do you have ANY remaining doubt about the uses of S702?

And do you have ANY remaining foolish thought that "other State actors"--are whiling away their time improving roads, bridges, and processes for the benefit of the public?

Plan accordingly.  More Ammo would be a good first move.
