Texan99 has a very good question about the "immigrant/low wage" argument.
...I read an article today accusing the GOP of misrepresenting its rationale for deporting illegal immigrants. The thinking goes: we can't deport immigrants because we can't get citizens to do their jobs at the prices employers want to pay. But hasn't that always been the argument for the minimum wage? Who says employers are entitled to a supply of laborers who are willing to work for an infinitely low wage? If the business can't be sustained without workers willing to work at that low wage, the business will not stay in business. Whatever Americans wanted offered at that price won't be available. That's always been true; it's why we can't afford house-servants of the sort that rich people used to think were necessary to a civilized life. Nor are we likely to solve the problem by making up the difference by paying lots more taxes so that impoverished workers can afford to work for us and still have a lot of basic but expensive needs met by welfare. We can't legislate a free lunch into existence; anything "free" is paid for somewhere, by someone....
There ARE successful 'low-wage' businesses, of course, and they often retain their employees pretty well. But that's only because they are smart enough to have a very loose set of rules; that is, they are just fine with extra time off, 'freebies' of company products, exceptionally friendly management, etc.
OTOH, some low-wage employers, especially those who employ illegals, are lowlife wage-rapists. They have you exactly where they want you: scared to death of them tattling on you. Submit, or else.
In general terms, Texan is right: if you will not pay acceptable wages, you will not survive. And if you are a wage-rapist, Trump's peeps will find you and you will be out of business, and (we hope) in a Fed Graybar Hotel.
That's all to the good.
“OTOH, some low-wage employers, especially those who employ illegals, are lowlife wage-rapists”
ReplyDeleteTrump relishes protecting rapiers in general. He himself paid immigrants with no legal status low wages in his construction business. And he outsourced his clothing line oversees. Furthermore, Trump is not arresting en masse the business owners who employ the illegals. Why would he? They are allies. And, of course, he is refusing to be completely transparent with Epstein, a known rapist.
So spare us your sanctimony.
No one on the Left can spell. Rapiers are dueling instruments, dumbass.
ReplyDeleteYour claim about his construction practices is--as usual--totally without evidence. As to arresting every "business owner who employs illegals," he nailed one in Omaha. That was the shot across the bow.
Finally, my position on illegals is clear WRT farm workers. Clean up the paperwork challenges and let 'em work here. As to the rest? Toss 'em.
No, its well sourced about Trump and his use of undocumented workers.
ReplyDeleteWow, one biz owner busted. Now only thousands more to go.
No. Kick out the illegals. Let real Americans pick the veggies and fruit in the fields.

ReplyDeleteDemocrats love them some slavery no matter what century
They eventually became Southern Republicans.
