Hate Rhetoric From MN Priest

Despite all we knew, this quotation from a "sermon" was still a shock to Catholic sensibilities.  It was delivered at the funeral Mass for the MN politician Melissa Hortman and her husband.  The motive for the killings remains a mystery at this time; the killer has issued a statement which--at best--is incoherent.

...Father Daniel Griffith, the pastor who conducted the service and shepherds the Basilica of St. Mary, decided to let in some politics, reading aloud an email written by another pastor, using sometimes hate-filled rhetoric and bringing up "Ground Zero' in Minneapolis, the epicenter of the 2020 riots during the so-called Summer of Love, and George Floyd's death, and calling for the "nation" to seek "deep healing":

[Quoting the email] Here in Minnesota, we have been the Ground Zero place, sadly, for racial injustice, the killing of George Floyd just miles from our church today. And now, we are the Ground Zero place for political violence and extremism,” Griffith said....

Fr. Griffin should have known better than to race-bait with a questionable assertion about the death of George Floyd and further, to assert that Minnesota is 'ground zero for racial injustice and political violence.'  He has no idea why the killer did what he did, and his implicit approval of those emailed comments--and his choice to spread and perpetuate them--demeans the solemnity of the Mass, the solemnity of the occasion, and the integrity of the Church, which was founded by The Truth.

'Pflegerizing' the Church is wholly untoward at any time, particularly during a Mass.

Shame on you, Fr. Griffith.

  1. The lovely and long suffering Mrs. Gotch (a career Lefty, she) observed that it didn't appear that any Righties attended the service; her adoring husband found nothing which refuted that.

IMO, nothing would have been lost, and it may have been a net positive, had someone....anyone...crossed the aisle.
