Trump stated that Ukraine 'started' the war. He was not far off.
He is referring to Kiev's violent harassment of Russian-speaking people inhabiting Eastern Ukraine--roughly, the Donbas area. That activity, most likely a product of CIA's activity and financing, led Putin to (unsuccessfully) 'charge' at Kiev, and later, take the 'special military action' of taking Donbas under Russian control. Some say that the Ukrainians were governed by a rump remnant of Nazi sympathizers. Russians don't like Nazis. A glance at the history of WWII will tell you why.
How much harassment? How many dead or injured? Was the area Russian? (Certainly it was part of the USSR, and part of Russia since the early 1900's.)
It's classic adult-sized playground fight. Trash-talk, arguments over 'who's your daddy,' (and whether your momma did whatever), a shove here and a hard push there......"Who started it?" is a question that will never be answered.
Therefore, it is unwise to accept at face value the Narrative of the CIA and MI6. Rather, one should fully and clearly understand the term "fog of war." And after you have that understanding, read history. It is just as unwise to accept the Narrative given by Putin, by the way.
Who started it? If you say "CERTAINLY Russia" or "CERTAINLY Ukraine" you are probably wrong.
One thing IS certain: the US has no national interests in Ukraine. None (unless you count the CIA's bio-weapon labs dotting the Ukraine territory.)
Ukrainians want to show Putin 'Who's Boss?' Fine. Have at it.
But not with me or mine.
The ugly American?
