Israel's Genocide Gambit

The real meaning of "Zionism" is simple:  force non-Jews out of Israel by any means necessary.  That's what Netanyahu has been doing; there are plenty of dead bodies and totally destroyed homes to show for it.

The International Court of Justice called that out.

The cornerstone to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) rulings made this Friday is that they revoke the ‘Israeli’ project’s assertion of unassailable moral rectitude....

…This is a stunning outcome that ultimately will shift the global power-balance.
The asserted unassailability and moral irreproachability to Israeli conduct finally has been judged to be (plausibly) genocidal — and illegal.

The ‘Israeli Project’ has been planted at the very core of Western foreign policy. The subsequent ‘industrialisation’ of the notion of unassailable moral rectitude drew on this (imputed) incontestability to justify, not just Israeli actions per se, but to spawn proxy power-structures across the Westernised world
.--Crooke, quoted at Wauck

Israel, to be honest about it, was never a paragon of rectitude.  Go ahead--ask around--you'll find that Israel is perfidious and murderous.  Their ownership of the US Congress has never been seriously questioned except by Patrick J Buchanan, and he was "othered" to near-extinction for that.

This time it's different.  Reading around the 'conservative' blogs and news outlets, one cannot find many Rah-Rah-Go-Israel!!!! noises.  So you'd think that Congressional support of the (now-genocidal) Israeli project would be minimal, at best.

Nope.

Bible-Boy Speaker Johnson wants to send $14BN over there.  Supposedly, that's a feint.

We'll see.

I've read a bit of the Bible, and while some passages in the O.T. condone genocide, the N.T. does not.  Perhaps Bible-Boy should get acquainted with the latter.

  2. The revolution has been televised. Who would have thought that in the 1940’s?

The narrative of European refugees returning to a homeland was married to the narrative of terrorism being an integral aspect of Islam, to intentionally produce public belief in Israeli righteousness. Now the internet allows the rest of the world to see what 21st century destruction of apartments and schools and hospitals looks like. The narrative is still playing word games like “gravity assisted restructuring” which does sound like benign advanced science.

An African I knew was amused that Americans still harbor a vision of that continent based on 1930’s Tarzan movies. Gaza City viewed from satellites looks like Mumbai, or a frame reversed picture of Rio de Janeiro or Milwaukee. It is somewhat reassuring that the global communications net is being used to “raise awareness” of mass murder. Mark78

  4. With all due respect to the “International Court of Justice” — and I mean, really, with all the respect they deserve — I feel like Israel is competent enough to have killed more than 0.1% of the population of Gaza if they were set upon a genocide. It’s been four months, which is about as long as the Rwanda genocide of ‘94. That killed at least twenty times as many people, possibly forty times as many, and they didn’t have heavy ordinance or a real military.

If Israel wanted a genocide, they would be capable of a real one.

  5. Uh, my bullshit o meter is going off

…. I feel like Israel is competent enough to have killed more than 0.1% of the population of Gaza …..

0.1 %. ? Really? Your telling me with all the tax money being sucked out of the USA by Israel that they only killed 0.1%. Please show me your sources.

  6. You can do your own research; the numbers aren't that hard to find.

There are about 15 million Palestinians, give or take a million or so because it's an international count. Ten percent of 15MM is 1.5MM, one percent is 150,000, 0.1% is 15,000.

The figures for the dead in the current conflict are around ten thousand at the low end, to 27,000 if you take the word of Gaza's health ministry (which is the number you'll see in the press, but this ministry is a wing of the government led by Hamas itself).

By simple arithmetic, then, the figure is somewhere between ~0.1-0.27% of the total of 15,000,000.

Now you can object to that math in a few ways. You could say that you don't think Israel is committed to genocide of all Palestinians everywhere, just the ones in Israel. About half of Palestinians live in Israel, so that would double the figure to 0.2-0.52%. Or you could say that you don't think they want to kill all Palestinians even in Israel, just all the ones in the Gaza Strip, which would double the figure again to 0.4-1.04%.

You only get as high as one percent if you take Hamas's numbers, and then limit the genocide accusation to the Gaza strip only (which, arguably, means you're giving up on 'genocide' as a real accusation: but that's a separate discussion). Even then, it's barely one percent. If the numbers are closer to the low end, it's not even half a percent even in Gaza alone.

An offensive that leaves 99%+ of the population alive might still be wrong; it might be ethnic cleansing, which many people object to; it might be a lot of things. But it isn't genocide, not unless the IDF is less competent at genocide than the machete-wielding 'army' of Rwanda.

  7. Grimm, you are better than this.

Playing word games with mathematical definitions? There are people saying that COVID was not a pandemic based on the WHO definition of pandemic. There are people who argue that the widespread nature of the disease made it a pandemic regardless of what the editors of Funk and Wagnalls decided for their published definition.

So how about instead of genocide we stick with mass murder. As much as you dislike Hamas, I find it hard to believe that ten thousand dead children is a forgivable rounding error to make the hard numbers total below the threshold of genocide. You can find their names on the internet: Salah Muhammad Salah Abu Jazar (11 years old) and Aya Hossam Amin Hassouna (8 years old) and on and on by the thousands.

Again, you are better than this Grimm. Mark78

  8. Hmmmm.

Grim is pretty good with the numbers.

Let's not call it "genocide," then. Let's simply say what's really happening over there: Israel is demolishing the habitat of 100,000++ people, forcing them to move out.

    Yah......"ethnic cleansing" works better.

  9. I’m sure Grim will be okay with Ethnic Cleansing, after all I’m sure it will not affect his big fat govt paycheck. War is good for the warmonger!

  11. Mark: I don’t know if I am better or not. I rely very heavily upon the promise of forgiveness. I’ve been to war three times, and I’ve learned its earthly lessons.

One thing that I have learned is that honor is everything. America has a bad record of betrayal, partly for honest reasons: we elect one side and then another, and they change policies and change sides. That fosters weakness at war, an earned lack of trust.

I also think the honest truth is that the road to ending this war and its suffering lies only through victory. Only one side could win it, so if you care about the weak you should side with the victors.

  13. Well, with Netanyahu’s call to annihilate the Amalekites, you can very well see that it’s Nakba all over again that Israel wants.

Bible-Boy Speaker Johnson, along with his fellow evangelicals, are pushing for this catastrophe. I’m sorry for them, but I believe Pope Pius X and Pat Buchanan are right on this matter.

  17. You know, my dearest brethren. And let every man be swift to hear, but slow to speak, and slow to anger. For the anger of man worketh not the justice of God.—James 1:19-20

In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil. Whosoever is not just, is not of God, nor he that loveth not his brother. For this is the declaration, which you have heard from the beginning, that you should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of the wicked one, and killed his brother. And wherefore did he kill him? Because his own works were wicked: and his brother’s just. Wonder not, brethren, if the world hate you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not, abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer. And you know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in himself. In this we have known the charity of God, because he hath laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.—1 John 3:10-16.
