US Base Attacked in Iraq

Not reported locally because the Packer game is more important.

Details have continued trickling out and are scant, but by all accounts the Saturday attack on Al-Asad airbase in Western Iraq, which houses US forces, was a big one. Reuters cites an official who said "the base was hit by ballistic missiles but he left open the possibility it was struck by rockets." This has led to some speculation that ballistic missiles could have been fired on the US outpost from Iranian territory....

More--and more certain information--will emerge by Monday.  Some US personnel were injured; no reports of deaths.

Russia and Iran have signed a security agreement.  Going forward, the US should (repeat:  should) be very circumspect about allowing Israel to drag us into combat in the Middle East.  NeoCons will not, as they still hold the 1985-ish mindset that the US is the only superpower and can do anything.  But they're betting YOUR children and grand-children, not theirs.

Further, the Houthis fully intend to keep US- and Israeli cargoes and ships OUT of the Red Sea.  Iran is not controlling them because Iran really has no influence over them.  KSA is militarily useless and wants to keep itself out of conflict with Moslems, even if they are "different" Moslems.  Reason?  KSA is militarily useless.

Meantime, Russia has effectively won the Ukraine conflict.  Now it's a mop-up op for them.  Zelenskiy, if he's not dead, will flee to one of his estates outside of the country.

Sad note:  Republicans in Congress still don't have a clue.
