David Brooks: Stuck in the Last Century

 No question about it; as one ages, one looks backward to a 'golden age' of one's youth.

Often, however, that gold was merely veneer.  That's what David Brooks, Intellectualoid, sees.

...Brooks said the Republican Party “was the party of anti-Communism. It was the party of an American-led world order. It was the party of containment against Russia — against the Soviet Union. And now, it’s very much the opposite. And as I look at the Republican Party, I just want to make sure they’re going to fund Ukraine. I just want to make fund — I think they should link Ukraine aid to Israel aid and maybe the southern border aid, and say, we are just going to fund things that’ll create a stable world order.”...

Ummnnnhhhh...

David, old boy:  the "Republican Party" of country clubs, banks, and boardrooms exists only in the enfeebled and superannuated minds of a clump of geriatrics and grifters in Washington, D.C., with a few others scattered around in nursing homes and State capitols.  They were 'anti-communist' largely for show--and then only 'anti-FOREIGN-communist.  Which of them defended Gene McCarthy or the John Birch Society, who were anti-DOMESTIC-Communist, eh?  Buckley?  Wallace White?  Robert Taft?

Nope.  The domestic communists infested the NY Times and most other "news" outlets and then took over almost all of US education, mostly due to the efforts of James Earl Carter's Department of Education.  (Robert Byrd of the KKK and Tip O'Neill assisting.)

You implicitly assert that the "Republican Party" backs the "Soviet Union".  The "Soviet Union" has been dead since Reagan, David.  Russia remains and has some client states.  And let's review a little history which you missed during your more-and-more frequent naps, David.

A large number of ethnic Russians were (and are) living in Eastern Ukraine.  The Ukraine government--the one installed by the US' CIA and State Department under the Communist Obama--has been shelling those ethic Russians, harassing them with demi-military activities and "justice-system" perversions since--oh--about 2014. 

So Putin decided to defend those fellow Russians and shove the CIA's branch-office government in Kiev out of eastern Ukraine.  It's possible that Putin had another motive:  to clear the CIA's biological-warfare operations out of Ukraine where they were a clear and present danger to millions of civilians.  Do you seriously think that Putin's motives were bad?  Do you not know that the US/NATO broke an agreement with Russia over NATO membership for Ukraine?  Are you THAT far out of it, David? 

Looking over the last 80 years or so, David, you will note that the "stable world order" you cherish has been achieved by purchasing tin-hat dictators with "foreign aid" for the benefit of US industry, not really for the benefit of the US as a whole.  Oh, sure, farmers exported a lot due to Federal subsidies, and Caterpillar, United Technologies, Pfizer, Harris, and GE grabbed lots of market share.  But the cost of "world order" is not merely measured in US tax dollars; it is also measured in lives.  Viet Nam.  Desert Storm 1 and 2.  Afghanistan.  See, David, when the US can't buy "world order" that suits certain interests with cash dollars, the US buys that "world order" with the lives of its Armed Forces.

Now, David, let's talk about "cash dollars."  

Until Nixon came along, the US dollar (USD) had a defined value in gold.  Following Nixon and due to our purchase of the Sheikhs, the USD had a defined value in petroleum.  But over time, the US Government's increasingly unhinged spending and deficits caused the Arabs and the Red Chinese to look askance at the USD and now there is a competing store-of-value trading group called BRICS+.  This new arrangement is not without cause, as the US is never going to pay off its national debt and the BRICS+ people know it.  Never, unless the USD is suddenly and seriously de-valued, which will raise the price of every.  damn.  thing.  the US citizens buy from any foreign country.

In other words, David, the US is a walking bankruptcy case.  Ask Jamie Dimon and other Big Bank guys.  They're the ones pushing the Federal Reserve to raise rates in a valiant attempt to force Congress to cut back its spending.  (Good luck with that, Jamie.)

So David:  you want to spend even more US dollars to shore up a corrupt loser/dictator/actor 4,000 miles from the US because ..........why?  You want to continue the invasion of the US and paper it over with more spending to "aid" illegals to the tune of $2,000/month?  And while we're OK with aid to Israel, exactly what "aid" are you talking about--and how much will that cost in dollars and lives?

Nap-time is over, David.  Go out and count the number of weapons and war materiels still available for defense of the US (it won't be too hard, as the cupboards are nearly bare.)

Then try to stay awake long enough to do an accurate assessment of the Republican Party.  You should conclude that its supporters are largely America First/MAGA citizens who are saying "no mas" to the Globaloney-With-Deficits crowd, which is a distinct and diminishing bunch of geriatrics trying to run it from their nursing homes, the Fox News organization, and a few other places.  (Fewer every day, thank God!)  

Did your editors discuss retirement with you, David?
