Ford Admits to Reality (!)

On occasion, Detroit poohbahs actually acknowledge reality.  Here's one such admittance, but you'd never know it by the way Ford is saying it.

Heads up, hybrid fans: Ford Motor is working on a whole bunch of new hybrid models.

“You’re going to see a lot more hybrid systems from us,” CEO Jim Farley said Thursday after the company reported second-quarter earnings that revealed widening losses on its electric vehicles unit....

You see the red highlights?  That's reality.  Let's go further:

...To be clear, Ford isn’t turning away from its much-touted EV push, though it said Thursday that its EV ramp-up may take longer than it had previously anticipated....

...“We have been surprised, frankly, at the popularity of hybrid systems for F-150,” Farley said during Ford’s second-quarter earnings call. More than 10% of F-150 pickup customers are opting for the hybrid model, Farley said, and that percentage has been increasing....

Read between the lines:  the all-electric F-150 is a flat-out failure in sales.  One SE Wisconsin dealer took 43 orders for all-electrics, but 39 of those offers were rescinded after Ford had 'battery problems.'  By no coincidence, the cancellations also followed revelations that towing mileage was absolutely dismal.

And just last week, Ford reduced the selling price by $10,000.00Just coincidence, to be sure.

At least Ford didn't hire Dylan Mulvaney to push the trucks.

That leaves Mulvaney free for GM to take.  Don't bet against that.
