Given what we know about Pp. Francis, this is not surprising. It's another sign.
Now let's see what +McElroy has written defending a book written by his good friend, J. Martin, SJLBGTQ.
...The coordinated attack on Building a Bridge must be a wake-up call for the Catholic community to look inward and purge itself of bigotry against the L.G.B.T. community…chastity is not the central virtue in the Christian moral life. Our central call is to love the Lord our God with all our heart and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Many times, our discussions in the life of the church suggest that chastity has a singularly powerful role in determining our moral character or our relationship with God. It does not.”...
All--repeat--ALL virtues descend from 'love God with all our heart (etc.)' One can say that 'love God' is prima inter pares, but without love for God chastity is a tinkling bell, and one without chastity does not love God.
So the Cardinal-to-be may play all the word-games he wants, including the silly "under attack by bigots" slander.
And, trust me, he'll continue to play those games. Be prepared.
HT: Non Veni
He is Cardinal in the parallel Church, called NewChurch - Novus Ordo if you prefer Latin (they prefer vernacular in NewChurch).
ReplyDeleteHe is not Cardinal in the Catholic Church.
He is quantifiably separate from the Roman Catholic Church, founded by Jesus Christ, which doesn't change, nor can it.
The Catholic Church may be infinitesimally small, almost unseen perhaps, but it has one thing going for it: there is unity there - across time and into eternity where nothing changes because we have found the object of all desire ... our Lord and our God.
