The Dewey ideal was to "re-form" children--to replace parents (and by the way, the church) with schoolteachers and 'counselors.' They've tried a wide variety of methods but have now landed on "CRT" and "Social-Emotional Learning" as the preferred vehicles.
In totalitarian societies, families are merely breeders for the State. Thus, parental influence on thinking and behavior must be eradicated or at the very least, seriously modified. The church is also a target because the church inevitably preaches from a different foundation-document than does the State.
After all, if children are merely tools, the church's eschatology is NOT needed.
