One Part of the Christmas Story

One part of the Christmas narrative that jumps out at you in this era is this:

...Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear. The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord...

Shepherds were the 'flyover country' of those days.  They were the commonest of common men.

The angels didn't tell Caesar (in D.C.), nor Herod, his 'royal' delegate-ruler of the province (in the State Capital).  They didn't tell the High Priest, nor the Sanhedrin.  Nope.  They told the grunts.

(The three kings--who knew something was up--were NOT on the angels' text string, either.)

Worth thinking about in this era of populism, eh?
