Prager Copies Benedict XVI's Writings

I think Dennis Prager owes B-16 a few beers or something.

In an interview, Prager decried the degeneration of the West and specifically charges that the West has become God-less.  Prager is correct, but his condemnation is not comprehensive.  More on that later.

Prager:

...“It is not possible to build a great society on a secular foundation,” declared Prager. “America was built [on the Bible]....Genesis’s story of Adam and Eve eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge foreshadowed the modern era’s moral crises, assessed Prager.

Prager explained, “When the serpent tempts Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge — after all, God had only asked them to do one thing: not eat from this tree — [he] says, ‘You’ll eat from that, and you’ll be like God. You’ll determine good and evil.’ It says, ‘Know good and evil,’ and that is correct. That is what the Hebrew says, but it really means ‘determine good and evil.'”

Prager went on to say, “That is exactly what has happened in the post-Judeo-Christian — specifically, post-Christian — West, that people have become gods. That’s exactly what it is. The left has substituted itself for God. We determine what is right and wrong.”...

Hmmm.

Benedict XVI:

....“A society without God – a society that does not know Him and treats Him as non-existent – is a society that loses its measure. . . .Western society is a society in which God is absent in the public sphere and has nothing left to offer it. And that is why it is a society in which the measure of humanity is increasingly lost. At individual points it becomes suddenly apparent that what is evil and destroys man has become a matter of course.”...“The crisis of morality. . .was chiefly the hypothesis that morality was to be exclusively determined by the purposes of human action that prevailed. . . .Consequently, there could no longer be anything that constituted an absolute good, any more than anything fundamentally evil; (there could be) only relative value judgements.....

OK, then.  Pot's right?

Not completely.  Dennis Prager would like to blame it all on "the Left."  That's writing the symphony without using any stringed instruments.  The reality:  many elements of "the Right" have exactly the same problem; they worship money or status, and allow those 'gods' to determine their actions.

Finally:  Prager is totally wrong when he (in other videos) praises Western Liberalism.  In fact, Liberalism is the cause of the problem that Prager sees.  (The Federalist printed the long version of what you see on my blog-link)

Prager may not want to put that into his next interview, but he should.  Of course, then he'd owe B-16 a couple of cases of really good beer, and he'd prolly have to become a mackerel-snapper, too.
