Requiescat in Pace Bishop Morlino

Bp. Morlino of Madison died last night at about 9:00.   May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace.

Thus ends a significant chapter in the story of the Diocese of Madison.  Bp. Morlino worked very hard to re-evangelize a Diocese which, frankly, was the religious equivalent of Madison's politically dominant and poisonous Left-o-Wackiness.

Lacking vocations from his own territory, the Bishop found willing priests and Orders from overseas and from the diaspora of the Legionnaires.  After some hesitation, the Bishop firmly supported a regular Extraordinary Form Mass, and not just in a "Traddy Ghetto" fashion as is the case in the neighboring Milwaukee Archdiocese; there are quite a few locations where that Mass is regularly celebrated.

There were many other accomplishments of this fine servant of God, which others will address.

Watch and pray!!  Cdl. Cupich of Chicago will have a great deal of influence in the appointment of Bp. Morlino's successor.  And yes, that's a warning.

  1. Yes, a fine shepherd, RIP.

I doubt a successor like him will be appointed, but miracles do happen and now would be a good time for one!

  2. This is a faint hope, but maybe Cdl. Cupich will request that Bp. Perry fill the vacancy...

  6. May he rest in the peace of Christ. Bishop Morleno died of natural causes. Why is it that all of the solidly Catholic prelates have been the ones dying? We need them now more than ever before!

  7. The Catholic priests in the diocese need to make it clear from Day One that, if the new bishop wants to be another Cupich, it will be over ALL of their dead bodies. They need to warn him BEFORE he tries to destroy one of them as an example.
