One of the reasons that cars cost a lot these days is that automakers (like GM) are idiot-proofing the cars. Well, OK, attempting--at great cost-- to idiot-proof the cars.
The number of infant and toddler deaths as a result of being left
unattended in the back seat of a sweltering hot vehicles is on the rise.
To help stem that tide, General Motors is expanding its new rear-seat
reminder feature to 19 models during the next year....
Thirty, forty, fifty years ago, "parents" did not leave their children in a car for hours. There were at least two reasons for that: 1) Parents were not drug-addled nor drunk while driving with their kids; and 2) The kids could NOT be strapped in like in Old Sparky at the state prison. There were no straps!! No belts!!! No kiddie-chairs!!!
And ya'know what? They survived!
