The old "shoot the dog" trick. Different ending
Armed robber shoots police officer. Police
officers track suspect down to a trailer park. Dog enters the scene
and a deputy opens fire—except that, in a twist on the usual story,
he misses the pooch and plugs a young child, instead.
Yah, that "training" with deadly weapons really works. Lucky for the kid that it wasn't "spray and pray" training, eh?
Absolutely anybody can learn to stand in a calm, motionless stance and deliver rounds down range to a calm, motionless paper target. This is exactly how the average LEO learns to shoot. It should come as no surprise to anybody that they perform poorly in chaotic situations involving shooter and/or target movement. They're increasingly being tasked with performing urban combat with woefully inadequate training. They certainly don't need to be SEALs, but proficiency at shredding paper targets does not translate well to real world demands. The days of Mayberry are long gone.
