Here's a Hint for Tom Barrett

Since Tom Barrett's city seems to have crime problems AND a cash-drain caused by union hacks writing "disability" rules, "disability" policies, and health-insurance coverage mandates, here's a heartwarming story which may provide Tom with a clue.

Last year, the city of Camden decided to can its unionized police force in favor  of ununionized county cops who hit the streets this April. The decision came about because the police union would not budge on the highly lucrative contract they had, even by police standards.

... The reorganization increased the amount of police on the streets and incorporated cutting edge technology such as ShotSpotter rooftop monitors. The initiative has already gotten results, according to city leaders.

Over the summer months this year, the murder rate fell by 22 percent and crime overall was down 15 percent, according to data provided by Camden County officials

Of course, there's always the Detroit Option, right?.

  1. This solution ought to brought to replace Milwaukee County social workers.

If anything, loafing and web surfing would drop 95%.

  2. The success is in large due to those "invasive" tactics Dad29 blabs about. When ShotSpotter’s remote monitors — microphones and circuitry in a weatherproof shell — detect a loud noise, a central computer program analyzes the acoustic signature, providing a more accurate location than people usually can. It classifies the source, pinpoints the suspected location to within a few yards and notifies police. City personnel verify the alert and dispatch officers. This technology has come under fire by libertarians it is similar to drones that conduct their own "acoustic reconnaissance".

  3. Umnnh, sure.

Nothing to do with more cops on the beat more hours, right?

Because if it's ShotSpotter, then Tom Barrett can buy 100 of those and fire the entire cop shop, right?
