While the MSM reports that Black Friday sales were up,
Kohl's and
Bon-Ton both reported lousy November sales (through 11/27).
Kohl's Corporation (
KSS) reported Thursday that for the four-week month ended November 26, total sales decreased 4.5% and comparable store sales decreased 6.2% from the four-week month ended November 27, 2010.
Bon-Ton Stores Inc., owner of the Boston Store department store chain, said Thursday that its November revenue at stores open at least a year dropped 4.9% due to unseasonably warm weather.
IIRC, the last time Kohl's had lousy sales results was just before the Great Recession began.
