A team has been set up, to put a stop to garage style churches, boldly shaped structures that risk denaturing modern places for Catholic worship. Its task is also to promote singing that really helps the celebration of mass. The “Liturgical art and sacred music commission” will be established by the Congregation for Divine Worship over the coming weeks.
Well, garage-church, garage-music. Makes sense.
Sounds good on the face of it - and badly needed in many places. But will it have any real effect?
ReplyDeleteVatican intervention didn't stop Weakland from doing his own thing and wrecking the Cathedral...
Heh.
ReplyDeleteIn general, Vatican norms, instructions, orders, and actions have little effect on Bishops, period.
It would work if they had a team of EOD trained men to enforce their decisions.
ReplyDeleteNice to see, but no teeth. What will they do, close 80% of American churches?
ReplyDeleteBy closing 80%, we'd eliminate priest shortages and save money on utilities. PLUS, the churches would finally fill to capacity! What's wrong with shuttering some questionable facilities?
ReplyDeleteOutside of my mild sarcasm, I've actually suggested that the KoC become an 'enforcer' of Vatican edict. Encourage KoC members to best learn these new policies and then 'infiltrate' (AKA 'join') local church councils and 'encourage' the policy. Additionally, they can act as 'liturgical monitors' and send 'messages' back to those who care (and matter.) It makes a whole lotta sense, and would allow for some nice 'auditing.'
Umnnhhh....
ReplyDeleteSpying and reporting is not going to be productive. Much better is this: join the (local) parish which actually follows Vat regs. They are out there!
