The M-16's Fail

Mid-length article describing the terrible early days of the M-16.

  1. I read a book a few years back highlighting the 150 years of failures of the Springfield Armory. One thing touched on was the M-16.

The Vietnam M-16 failure was not the rifle but the powder. The M-16 was designed, then approved, with one type of powder. Then the manufacturer was told to stop making that powder, and something else was substituted that left the barrel grimy.

Upon demand, I will seek the book title and ISBN from my library.

  2. Powder was mentioned in the article, along with ZERO chromium content in the receiver/barrel.
