Well.
Seems as though someone didn't follow through.
Working with legal counsel, College administration issued a letter of immediate suspension on September 29, 2010. That evening, two police officers delivered the letter of suspension to the student at his and his parents' residence and spoke with the student and his parents. … Loughner and his parents met Northwest Campus administrators October 4, 2010. During this meeting Loughner indicated he would withdraw from the College. A follow-up letter was sent to him October 7, 2010 indicating that if he intends to return to the College, he must resolve his Code of Conduct violations and obtain a mental health clearance indicating, in the opinion of a mental health professional, his presence at the College does not present a danger to himself or others. --Moonbattery quoting Tucson Sentinel
So far, we don't know if the loony visited a shrink. But at least one Arizona public institution knew he was several fries short of a happy meal.
Although in this case he clearly was a danger to himself and others, that strikes me as an absurd standard. Where are you going to find a psychologist who will declare that someone is NOT such a threat? After all, psychology has no lab tests for the question; and if you say they aren't, and they kill somebody, you're now personally liable for any and all damages.
ReplyDeleteWhereas declaring that they might be? No harm, no foul.
Assuming Pima CC didn't have to report this to the authorities, because he purchased the weapon in November, after being kicked out.
ReplyDeleteBuy More Ammo, right Dad29?
ReplyDeleteBuy More Ammo, right Dad29?
ReplyDeleteOh please. This makes all of you look stupid and childish (not that it's a big step).
Loughner acted against the legal and moral parameters of gun ownership that Dad29 and others on the right advocate.
More over, as information comes out about this guy he is further and further distanced from Sarah Palin, the Tea Party and any other (already fragile) connection to the right that liberals are so desperately hoping to find.
Loughner was mad at Giffords from an event in 2007, when she responded to one of his nonsensical questions in Spanish. See: http://tinyurl.com/28anaoz. A good year before Sarah Palin took the national stage in any form.
He was a 9/11 Truther who friends describe as liberal and a loner who had severe mental problems.
Perhaps if -- like the Virginia Tech shooter -- the COLLEGE responsible for educating him and where his unusual behavior was well known and scary to people (one professor worried about being shot by Loughner) had done something, he wouldn't have been able to get a weapon.
Not that it matters now, but someone THAT deranged probably wouldn't have been deterred from getting at Giffords if he didn't have access to a gun. Sadly, a bomb or a well-aimed car could have done just as much or more damage.
You're right, Amy.
ReplyDeleteI have a solution for two problems. Let's arm the altar boys.
I suggest we turn this nutjob loose for one last encore, say the 200 block of Main Street in Jefferson.
ReplyDeleteNah.
ReplyDeleteJohn provides insight into the mind (?) of the nutjobs in this world.
Go ahead, Amy. Show me where gun and knife worship fits in your theology. Tell me that rhetoric that glorifies shooting and killing has no effect on the mind. Show me why "Tom Foust" said what he did, and whether he votes with you or against you.
ReplyDeleteShow me where gun and knife worship fits in your theology.
ReplyDeleteGiven your, ahem, history, you have no business demanding I tell you anything of my theology.
But I'll still play your little game.
We have a right to defend ourselves -- with deadly force if necessary -- from unjust aggressors. Giffords, a 2nd Amendment advocate and gun owner, would have been well within her moral and legal rights to dispatch the SOB who shot her. As would anyone in the crowd.
Gun ownership in and of itself isn't immoral; using the gun to commit cold-blooded, premeditated murder is. The Catechism is pretty clear on that point, even if guns are specifically mentioned. Lefties never get this, but intent behind acts *does* actually matter. And I don't mean the inferred intent lefties like to apply to wackos like Loughner.
If this is tantamount to "gun/knife worship" in your book...then that's a problem YOU have. Not me.
As for Tom Foust, I have no clue who he is or what his intentions are. Mind reading is not a gift I inherited, so you are free to infer away as to what he means. I bear no responsibility for him except to echo the call that he's as nutty as squirrel poo.
So Dad29's routine weekend gun fondling, declarations of love for big knives, and regular suggestions that guns can solve political problems - that all comports with the New Testament for you?
ReplyDeleteWhat leads Tom and Dad29 to suggest that a few cartridges will solve their beefs?

ReplyDeletePlease show me where they've violated any part of Catholic teaching.
What leads Tom and Dad29 to suggest that a few cartridges will solve their beefs?
Don't know. Why don't you ask *them*? Or would that be too difficult for you?
I wonder what Paul Ryan has to say on the matter.
ReplyDelete"There’s fringe rhetoric on both sides,” said Ryan, a conservative. “I think everybody needs to assess the appropriateness of their language and the kind of discourse they advance. We need passionate debate about ideas, but every time you decide to say something you should think through the consequences.”
Words of wisdom to live by, eh?
“We should always be talking about how we can have a more civilized discourse in society; language in society has grown coarser (but) I don't think it would be appropriate to read some sort of political or philosophical agenda into this," he said.
Maybe people here ought to LISTEN, not hear him, correct?
Amy, I think you are denying your own reality. Jesus didn't teach you to fondle guns and knives, did he? Two thousand years of Catholic teaching doesn't encourage people to suggest that guns are going to solve problems, does it?
ReplyDeleteIf I told you about someone who was similarly obsessed with anything you didn't like - oh, I don't know, how about porn - you'd tell me it wasn't Godly.
I ask all sorts of questions here, and patriarch Dad29 tells people to ignore me.
Oh, darn. Here's the woman who grabbed the shooter's clip. “I think Sheriff Dupnik said it best that the extreme right reporters in radio and TV have added to this problem,” she responded. “And I'm just hoping that'll change because of this." She then specifically calls out Republicans for characterizing the health care bill as “job-killing.” "I think they've just gone over the top," she added. "I think that the extreme right has gone too far."
Does nonsense deserve a response?

ReplyDeleteYeah, except in this thing we call reality, Jared Loughner is neither conservative nor sensible.
But keep repeating those lies, Foust. It clearly makes you feel morally superior.

This garbage doesn't even deserve a response. Get back to me when you grow up.
Shockers of the day!
ReplyDeleteA Democrat Sheriff and Democrats that voted for a Democrat as their Congresswoman and were attending an event to meet with her would think that Republicans were too rhetorical.
Actually, now that would also explain why nobody in the crowd was carrying.
OK John, since you are now a self affirmed biblical expert.....did Jesus tell the centurion to lay down his sword or spear?
ReplyDeleteDavid
I don't think it takes a Biblical expert to show that the central message of the New Testament was not about fondling weaponry or suggesting that problems are solved by force.
