It appears that Boehner and his merry band still haven't read the election results.
They like "Poison-Lightbulb" Upton for Energy/Commerce and "Earmarks Hal" Rogers for Appropriations.
And they rationalize it:
The Boehner camp is also confident that measures like the earmark moratorium already adopted by the GOP caucus and the committment to seek to reduce federal spending to 2008 levels will suffice to contain any thoughts of a return to the pre-2006 mentality among House Republicans.
It's not a question of 'reducing spending to '08 levels.' It's a question of REDUCING the Federal Gummint's presence and activity across the board. That's why Paul Ryan's question, "what is the Government for?" is important.
Maybe Boehner doesn't bother with really hard questions. But he should.
This isn't exactly a shock.
ReplyDeleteToo many thought this election was the end game, when, in fact, it was really just the beginning.
With Reid still in the Senate and Obama in the White House, the goal here was (mostly) gridlock with hopefully some roll-backs.
But those two committee chair options are really bad. Just like the current "frontrunner" Prez candidates being bandied about. All because some folks were next in line.
