The Joys of Fixing the Climate

Noted in an article from Cancun, where tax-supported bureaucrats discuss ways to stop YOU from keeping warm...

Calvin DeWitt, a University of Wisconsin-Madison professor of environmental studies, is traveling to the climate talks Monday. He is looking forward to engaging with representatives from other countries on practical responses to address climate change.

"I'm not sure we can rely totally on governmental action at the world level," he said. "We're going to have to be relying on that action at the level of states in the United States, at the level of nations and at the level of individual communities.

"What I'm concerned about," he said, "is we not only need grand statements, but we also need concerted action. And a lot of that action is done by entities that are smaller than the whole globe."

California, for example, adopted policies to encourage energy efficiency in the 1970s. As a result, he said, its per capita energy use is 40% below the national average.

Oh, yes, Perfesser....California is an outstanding example.

You didn't mention that that State is a Zombie--a walking BK--(see: "California may have escalating sales tax receipts, but its budget shortfall will exceed $25 billion for the fiscal year starting July 1") , nor that little foreclosure-problem out there, nor the cost of electricity in that State, which is about FIFTY PERCENT more than Wisconsin's.

Why not?

  1. Or that CA has the most temperate climate in the US. It is a little easier to consume less energy when you don't have to run your heating and air conditioning.
