How to Persuade Schools NEVER to Hire Muslims

Umnnhhhh.....

In a civil rights case, the [US] said the school district in Berkeley, Ill., denied the request of Safoorah Khan on grounds that her requested leave was unrelated to her professional duties and was not set forth in the contract between the school district and the teachers union. In doing so the school district violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by failing to reasonably accommodate her religious practices, the government said.

Khan wanted to perform the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia which every adult Muslim is supposed to make at least once in a lifetime if they are physically and financially able to.

A three-week 'reasonable accomodation' during the school year?

  1. I agree with the school district's position, regardless if she wanted unpaid leave. It is a matter of contractual obligation. And this coming from a moderate to liberal dude.

    Now, if the person was a Catholic teacher at a public school who sought to go on a mission to South America for the same amount of time, you would say no, right?
    Same situation here.

    Now, I'm fairly certain that Jesus would vehemently oppose of the overt prejudice in your blog title.

    I would expect that teacher to schedule the mission trip during vacation time. Three weeks can be easily accomodated in summertime.

  5. I know this is asking a lot of you, Anony, but think...

    When the US Attorney General sues a school district for 'discriminatory practice' and the aggrieved party is a Muslim, AND the complaint is that the district did not allow a hajj-trip, OTHER school districts are going to pay a lot of attention.

    This is not some "PI" scumsucker outfit. This is the USAG.

    SO: how to minimize possible problems? Don't hire Muslims.

    Of course, no one will ADMIT that, nor say it out loud, which is why you heard it here first.

  6. Thanks for openly advocating discrimination of a specific group based on a person's faith during the Christmas season. You just made my day for trying to rationalize your overt prejudice.

    I'll say it again, the USAG is flat out wrong in this regard. A request was made to the school district, and that request was denied, not because of a distinct bias, but due to the language of the contract.

    However, if that same school district had given time off to another staff member who was non-Muslim to conduct mission work during the school year, for example, then the school district is DEAD WRONG and should get their hats handed to them.

    It was ONE Muslim who made the request. It is only a problem in YOUR EYES. How insulting.

    I still haven't heard you, however, echo Dave's sentiments.

  8. I COMPLETELY understand what you wrote. You are trying to justify bigotry. Thomas Acquinas would NOT approve.

    If ignorance means that I do my best (and, trust me, I stumble at times) to support ALL people of faith being treated equally and with respect, then so be it.

    I actually agree with you on one level, and you still have the audacity to call me "ignorant".

    At least Dave had the courage to respond to my inquiry. Your refusal (which is your choice mind you) to answer in kind speaks volumes.
