That "BP" Spill? Not So Fast...

The lawsuits are interesting.

“It was the flooding of the Deepwater Horizon and the resulting sinking of the rig that directly caused the piping to break and begin spewing millions of gallons of oil into the ocean,” Lloyd Frischhertz and Gerald Maples, lawyers for the spill victims, said in a complaint filed in federal court in New Orleans.

Nnnnooooooooooooooo!

You mean that FedGov folks may be incompetent bozos?

Say it ain't so!

  1. There's no indication in your link that would suggest that.

  3. "The lawsuit doesn’t seek damages from BP, rig-owner Transocean Ltd. or the U.S. Coast Guard, which helped direct the firefighting effort. The plaintiffs claim the fireboats violated industry standard procedures that warn against using water cannons to attack pressurized oil fires aboard marine vessels."

'“Any request or encouragement by U.S. Coast Guard, British Petroleum or Transocean to pump water and use water cannons’’ for extended periods to fight the fire “should have been met with protest and refusal,’’ according to the complaint.'

There's no indication that the Coast Guard specifically or singularly asked the fireboats to do anything "incompetent" in this article. You simply are assuming that.

  4. Of course, you could read a few MORE paragraphs from the story:

The Coast Guard has gathered evidence it failed to follow its own firefighting policy during the Deepwater Horizon disaster and is investigating whether the chaotic spraying of tons of salt water by private boats contributed to sinking the ill-fated oil rig, according to interviews and documents.

Coast Guard officials told the Center for Public Integrity that the service does not have the expertise to fight an oil rig fire and that its response to the April 20 explosion may have broken the service’s own rules by failing to ensure a firefighting expert supervised the half-dozen private boats that answered the Deepwater Horizon’s distress call to fight the blaze.

Gee. Looks like an "implication" to me.

  5. I agree with the post but no matter how creative the carpetbaggers get the reason for this spill and the aftermath rests on BP.

  6. Of course, it's pretty insane to bitch about the firefighters not saving your house when you disable your smoke detector:

    Unbelieveable.

  7. Dad29 wants to blame everything on the government. MAYBE the Coast Guard's decisions contributed to the oil leak, but as the article suggests, it was a chaotic situation that required action right away. The MAJOR culprit is the oil leak explosion and subsequent inability to cap the leak immediately.

I'm glad Obama was able to "convince" BP to set up a fund to help the innocent people of the Gulf. But Dad29 would like people to believe the money given was a "shakedown". Go down there yourself and tell the citizens there of your claim, you wouldn't last a day.
