Barret: Ideologue of Death

Well. Tommy-boy speaks up in favor of killing babies. Surprise!

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said Monday he fully supports embryonic stem cell research and criticized his Republican opponents in the race for governor for their opposition to the potentially life-saving research.

..."I think it would be a huge mistake to allow an ideological agenda to stop the work that's being done here."

Gee, Tommy.

Name just ONE cure. Just ONE cure derived from embryonic stem-cell research.

I think I hear the Archbishop of Milwaukee calling you.

  1. How about IVF, DaddyZero? Without IVF there is no embryonic stem cell research as there are no leftover fertilized eggs headed for the medical waste incinerators.

You folks lost the war over ESR when you failed -- for decades! -- to oppose IVF.

Frankly, you folks come off like flaming hypocrites.

If ESR is evil, then IVF is many times more evil as it results in thousands of little babies being killed every year as parents abandon unwanted eggs.

What gives with you folks and your very selective outrage?

No surprise that ESR hasn't produced the home run yet, given the profound restrictions imposed during the decade since it was launched right here in Wisconsin.

If every fertilized egg is really a baby, why don't we have a funeral with every miscarraige, or an investigation to ascertain if mommy killed the baby?

You folks make no sense at times, and this is one of those times.

  2. You assume, incorrectly, that I favor IVF.

But that doesn't make an ass out of me. Just you.

"Without IVF there is no embryonic stem cell research as there are no leftover fertilized eggs headed for the medical waste incinerators."

Really? Have you ever heard of a small group called Planned Parenthood? Don't get me started on the ironic hypocrisy in their name. They happen to be the largest provider of abortion services in the country.

What do you think they do with all of the lives destroyed (total abortions since Roe v. Wade tops 45,000,000) with their "service"? They sell them to research labs.

What do the research labs do?

They extract the stem cells and duplicate them!

And, just so you know, President Bush didn't outlaw embryonic stem cell research, he did the only thing he could do, legally at least, via Executive Oder - he prohibited Federal funding of embryonic stem cell research.

If some company wanted to go out there and fund a project based on ESR's, they were more than able to.

Facts. Tricky little buggers, aren't they?

  4. When DaddyZero is cornered, he pulls out the "ass" card. Check out the mirror, Daddy.

You say you oppose IVF but you never wail and moan about it, do you? What has the "right to life" movement ever done to oppose IVF? Does it ask candidates for the legislature whether they support or oppose IVF? Ever introduce a bill to limit or ban IVF? Anything? Bueller? Bueller?

Let's face it -- you folks are flaming hypocrites on this issue. No consistency or intellectual honesty. Zip,zilch. nada.

The Anon rant about Planned Parenthood is even less rational. The stem cell lines come from discarded fertilized eggs and not from aborted fetuses. You are blowing it out the tailpipe on this one, pal.

You also have some fundamental misconceptions (no pun intended) about how scientific research is conducted in this country today. There is very little privately-funded basic science research because the payback is so far in the distance. The $$$ comes from NSF or NIH. Universities make the discoveries and license them to private businesses. This is the WARF model, which has been a spectacular success since 1924 -- the oldest and most succcessful university licensing agency in the world.

This is precisely why the $3 billion referendum was undertaken in California -- to raise the coin necessary to jump-start the research.

  5. Yada, yada, yada.

The facts remain: that ESCR has not produced ONE cure for anything, and that it is killing babies.

As for 'pulling cards,' look hard at the Mis-Direction card you enjoy so much.

    Tommy-Boy is wrong, period.

  6. Without IVF there would be no embryonic stem cell research today. Both "kill babies," in your mind, apparently.

Over the last 10 years, perhaps 50, maybe fewer, fertilized eggs have been used in Madison to create the ongoing stem cell lines.

During the same period of time, THOUSANDS of fertilized eggs have been murdered. You folks piss and moan about one form of "killing" and say and do absolutely nothing about the other.

Again, the hypocrites at Wisconsin Right to LIE and Pro-LIE Wisconsin wail incessantly about embryonic stem cell research. They introduce bills to restrict it. They survey candidates running for the legislature. They picket at UW football games. They devote significant space on their web sites to trash it. They issue teary press releases.

But what do they do about IVF? Nothing -- zip, zilch, nada.

What gives? Flaming hypocrisy. Man up and admit it. Grow a pair!
