Is college REALLY the end-all/be-all for everyone?
The Professor doesn't quite get to Cardinal Newman's "Idea of a University," but doesn't stray too far from it.
Next question: what about employment for non-college folks?
A couple of things:
ReplyDelete1. It's a shame that people who are not cut out for college don't have more opportunities for decent-paying blue collar work.
2. Colleges and universities these days are a joke to a large extent. There is little integration of knowledge or cooperation between the disciplines, which results in students receiving a very disjointed education that leaves them more confused than enlightened. (A few good Catholic colleges and others are trying to remedy this problem.)
3. I also agree that many people who are in college are not cut out for its rigors or simply have little interest in intellectual things.
