Obama Channels Joe Wilson

Joe Wilson was quiet last night.

But Obama took up Joe's impoliteness, with a vengeance.

Has a president ever attacked The U.S. Supreme Court like that in such an august setting?

No. Not even FDR hit SCOTUS like that during a S O U address.

MORE:

Presidents have mentioned the Supreme Court by name only nine times since that Wilson speech nearly a century ago, according to the search, and it would be hard to categorize many of those nine as criticisms. Even President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who had a lot of grievances with the Court, never mentioned it in any of his State of the Union messages. And Richard Nixon, who campaigned against the Warren Court, mentioned the Supreme Court in a State of the Union talk only once, in 1972, in a bland, welcoming way.

  1. And you know this how? Have you recently perused the text of the previous 200 and such sotus? My guess is you soon be eating those words. I took a screen shot just in case.

  2. "I took a screen shot just in case."

    Ooooooooooooooooooooooh!

So Jimbo, do you plan on scouring through all of the SOUs until today?

  3. When something is HIGHLIGHTED in blue, it is cited/quoted material. On this blog, it's cited/quoted from a reputable resource.

I understand that the term "reputable resource" is hard for liberals to understand. After all, ClimateGate has proved that to the rest of us in spades.

  4. Joe Wilson wasn't rude. If you go back and watch the video of the incident, the President had just finished saying that his opponents were liars.

Sir James Edward Oglethorpe once nearly had a duel over an occasion where someone had insulted him, and he threw wine on them. There would have been a duel, except that the Prince who was commanding the army on the occasion laughed it off. "He has only finished," the Prince said, "what you so well began."

    And so it was.

Yes but the source was not provided. I eventually found the link at your hat tip. As far a reputable, I don't know as I'm not familiar with the source.

I just may do a little eyeballing of the texts and see what pops up.

As for the screen shot, it comes in handy when posts disappear from blogs when facts unfortunately get in the way. Keeps us all honest.

Neo-Conbo (as long as we're on such chummy terms): malted hops? Isn't it the barley that is malted?

  6. Initially cited from the American Spectator blog, Jim. I'd say, a very reputable resource. You are familiar with the American Spectator, aren't you Jim?

Jim is right, Neo. It's malted barley.

  7. I found 58 occurrences of "Supreme Court," 1 of "High Court, and 59 of "the court" or "the courts."

Betcha a buck there's a mention of a specific justice in there somewhere too.

  8. American Spectator, yes. But I found the original source to be The BLT: The Blog of the Legal Times with which I am not familiar.

  9. Slimjim... sadly, you (and DCS) are INCORRECT. Epic fail ladies.

Yes, barley IS malted. Thanks for the lesson in brewing beer (as a Wisconsinite, one would think I already know the process). However, if you have any understanding of pop culture--perhaps major movies--you would know this exchange:

Richard: What is our carrying charge for all the merchandise in the warehouse?

    Tommy: Ohhhh, man...

    Richard: One and a...

Tommy: ...half percent. I knew that. Why can't I remember it?

Richard: Try an association like, uhhh... Let's say the average person uses ten percent of their brain. How much do you use? One and a half percent. The rest is clogged with malted hops and bong resin.

  10. And jimmytimmy, I'll take your bet.

I bet out of all 58 unverified occurrences, perhaps one could be misconstrued as insulting however what BHO said was well past the line, especially considering the venue.

  11. I haven't been to a movie I wanted to see in ten years. Did I mention I have a ten year old kid?

Yeah, and, no bet. Maybe sometime I'll dig through the 118 "unverified" (come on, it's a simple text search from a university provided database) mentions, but that's about umpteen minus one-th of the umpteen things on my todo list.
