Whose Battle Is Afghanistan?

No, I don't think the US should be increasing its engagement there--if anything we should be looking towards getting out.

So what SHOULD happen?

Asia Times’ premiere South Asia correspondent M.K. Bhadrakumar has the best analysis of Afghan developments that I have seen recently. The key to solving the problem is to get India involved. Pakistan, understandably, does not like this, which is not surprising, because Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is the Taliban.

Gee, DOH!

India, of course, can do a lot to help the US and NATO in such a scenario by training the militia operating under the “warlords” and also providing them with weapons. In sum, without military deployment in Afghanistan, Delhi has the capacity to play a decisive role in crushing the Taliban insurgency, which is what makes the Pakistani military establishment extremely anxious in the developing political scenario on the Afghan chessboard.

The Taliban/AlQuaeda is India's problem; it is Russia's problem; and to a lesser extent it is PRChina's problem too.

Where are their troops?
