Really, Bp. Morlino?

The Bishop of Madison, a stalwart in many regards, penned an editorial on the Kennedy funeral.

All of this is leading me up to the expression of my contentment with how our Church, in a subdued fashion, celebrated the Rites of Christian Burial for Senator Kennedy — the proclamation of God’s Mercy was powerful, the prayer for forgiveness of his past sins was clearly offered, and all of this in a subdued way because of his long-standing and public holding of pro-abortion and other stances which have been a scandal in the literal sense.

With all due respect, Your Excellency, that is poppycock. I have BEEN to 'subdued' Catholic funerals. I know them very well. And that spectacle, with the Abortionist-in-Chief flapping his jaw in a CATHOLIC CHURCH, was not "subdued."

Two different Cardinals officiating is not "subdued."

Political platforms-as-prayers is not "subdued."

Don't try to kid us, Excellency.

I’m afraid, however, that for not a few Catholics, the funeral rites for Senator Kennedy were a source of scandal — that is, quite literally, led them into sin. From not a few corners has come the question, “how on earth could Teddy Kennedy be buried from the Church?” There have also been expressions from some, that “whatever happens in Church, Senator Kennedy will now face justice, which will lead him inside the gates of Hell.”

Maybe it's "not a few," but it certainly is not "many," Excellency.

But I'll tell you what that spectacle actually was, Excellency: it was an outright embarassment to Catholics who saw that funeral for what it really was: another capitulation by a weak Bishop to a very, very powerful and wealthy family whose deceased was an unabashed proponent of abortion-on-demand, ESCR, and same-sex "marriage". In fact, glamorizing Ted Kennedy is the real scandal here, Excellency. Think about that.

Clearly, you understand that those three items are directly contradicted by infallible teaching, Excellency? Clearly, you understand that NONE of the Bishops of Boston were persuasive as they kid-glove fawned near the Kennedy throne--a throne built on rum-running, stock-manipulation, and manipulating Government offices for the benefit of well-connected people?

Sometimes, 'circling the wagons' around feckless and weak Bishops is simply not productive. It's even more non-productive when to defend such a Bishop you find 'worse sinners,' real or imagined.

And you insult Catholics who know "subdued" from Mammon, Excellency.

Let's examine the CCC on "scandal"

2284 Scandal is an attitude or behavior which leads another to do evil. The person who gives scandal becomes his neighbor's tempter. He damages virtue and integrity; he may even draw his brother into spiritual death. Scandal is a grave offense if by deed or omission another is deliberately led into a grave offense.

2285 Scandal takes on a particular gravity by reason of the authority of those who cause it or the weakness of those who are scandalized. It prompted our Lord to utter this curse: "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea."85 Scandal is grave when given by those who by nature or office are obliged to teach and educate others. Jesus reproaches the scribes and Pharisees on this account: he likens them to wolves in sheep's clothing

My read, Excellency? When "Catholic" politicians such as Jim Doyle, Tom Barrett, or Dave Obey see that Ted Kennedy is glamorized by the Cardinal Archbishop of Boston, they are scandalized per 2284. And 2285 is not good news for Boston or the retired DC, either.

    Subdued it was not.

  3. You were born pagan, and baptized in the Catholic rite. Your parents raised you Lutheran.

Someday, ask your pastor why the Lutherans use all those Catholic rites but don't believe in the priesthood.

  4. Why don't Lutherans believe in the Priesthood? They don't want their male offspring molested.

Ask a harder question next time.
