Excerpted from an internal GE email:
On climate change, we were able to work closely with key authors of the Waxman-Markey climate and energy bill, recently passed by the House of Representatives. If this bill is enacted into law it would benefit many GE businesses. We are continuing our efforts to make certain that a final bill includes provisions to ensure the United States maintains its leading position in the renewable energy industry, which is an industry sector of vital importance to the future of GE.
How veddy nice.
If he means nukes, that's fine. If he wants to demolish coal, then I guess the Upper Midwest isn't part of GE's future contemplated markets.
Because there will not BE an Upper Midwest without coal.
You know what this means already, but I'll reiterate. GE wants to line its own pockets and doesn't care about anything else.
ReplyDeleteRemember what TCO said about coal: "We'll bankrupt 'em"
Short term it ain't nukes. Immelt has been making some fluttering on nukes, but I suspect its only because there is a real chance that the Cap & Trade bill might not go through.
ReplyDeleteThere is only 1 nuke plant in the US being bid on right now - in Virginia. Due to the economic downturn, several others have been pretty much put on ice.
Don't forget that WI pretty much has a ban on any new nukes.
However, I think this comment from an Obama lackey is telling:
"We may not need any [coal or nuclear plants], ever."
