Obama Does the Right Thing

Mark it down--this may be rare--we'll give him props for his appearance today in Iraq.

Speech notes from the pool, via Ace:

Obama: "Thanks to all of you."
"I am so honored." (Someone calls out love you...) "I love you back."
"I'm not going to talk long because I want to shake as many hands as I can."
Three points:
First, thanks. You face strain, sacrifice, controversy, difficulty, politics. Turning Iraq into fledgling democracy is an "extraordinary achievement."
Second, next 18 months "could be a critical period...it is time for us to transfer to the Iraqis. They need to take responsibility for their country."Our role is to train Iraqis to take control of their own country so "we can start bringing our folks home."
Third, know this is hard on you, multiple rotations, away from families, injuries, deaths. Many hear from spouses re their sacrifices. "Michelle and myself are with you every day."
We will support families, increases coming in my budget, commitment to veterans.
"As long as I'm in the White House, you are going to get the support that you need...."

One huzzah!

  1. Obama is primarily a showman. Decisions and actions are quite different from words.

Let's hope he doesn't turn around and put these folks in danger with another policy move in the morning.

You are right though... at least he showed up.

  2. I will give Obama credit. He has done good in Iraq and Afghanistan. He hasn't screwed thing s up there, much to the disappointment of the left.

  4. Yes, good that he went there - but that's the least he can do as Commander-in-Chief...

Those in the military don't decide policy but go where they are sent, obeying orders and making a lot of sacrifices. That should be recognized continually and always - and backed up by providing them what they need when there and taking care of them when they come home.

  5. Fine, give him props if you want...but is he lying now or was he lying during his campaign for the White House?
