The Governor of South Carolina doesn't get it. (Limbaugh doesn't get it, either.)
Here's Sanford:
I don’t want him [Obama] to fail. Anybody who wants him to fail is an idiot, because it means we’re all in trouble
Sanford then goes on to brag about his education and "finance" background.
Limbaugh is famous for saying that he wants Obama to fail.
Both are wrong. On my masthead you find the following:
"My kind of loyalty was loyalty to one's country, not to its institutions or its officeholders." ---Mark Twain
Apparently Gov. Sanford doesn't analyze things very well. Limbaugh has an excuse: he's an entertainer. Sanford is supposed to be a thinker.
Thinking would be a refreshing change.
If he is going to implement a far-left agenda... Look, I think it's already decided: a $2 trillion in stimulus? The growth of government? I think the intent here is to create as many dependent Americans as possible looking to government for their hope and salvation. If he gets nationalized health care, I mean, it's over, Sean. We're never going to roll that back. That's the end of America as we have known it, because that's then going to set the stage for everything being government owned, operated, or provided. Why would I want that to succeed? I don't believe in that. I know that's not how this country is going to be great in the future; it's not what made this country great. So I shamelessly say, "No! I want him to fail." If his agenda is a far-left collectivism -- some people say socialism -- as a conservative heartfelt, deeply, why would I want socialism to succeed? - Rush Limbaugh 1/19/09.
ReplyDeleteSince when is hoping for failure in achieving undesirable goals an issue?
My loyalty is to my country. Obama's agenda is to destroy this country (figuratively). Ergo, I want Obama to fail.
ReplyDeleteWhat does Limbaugh get wrong?
Both of you missed the point of Twain's aphorism.
ReplyDeleteIt's a logical fallacy: you substitute "Obama" for "his program."
There IS a difference, exactly like the difference between (e.g.) "homosexuality" and "the practice of homosexual acts."
Get it?
I see the connection and I saw that connection. You know what Limbaugh means, you know what anony means, you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteIt has nothing to do with O's personal failures - it has all to do with his agenda.
Well, sure.
ReplyDeleteBut it is important to distinguish, because by the same logic, "an Obama failure" could mean that he FU'd Afghanistan.
