Dave Obey (D-Big Brother) swears there's "no pork" in the "stimulus" bill.
And he's swearing to a flat-out lie (surprise!!!)
[Obama] bragged in Indiana about getting Congress to produce a package with no pork, yet boasted it will do good things for a Hoosier highway and a downtown overpass, just the kind of local projects lawmakers lard into big spending bills
There are no "earmarks," as they are usually defined, inserted by lawmakers in the bill. Still, some of the projects bear the prime characteristics of pork — tailored to benefit specific interests or to have thinly disguised links to local projects.
For example, the latest version contains $2 billion for a clean-coal power plant with specifications matching one in Mattoon, Ill., $10 million for urban canals, $2 billion for manufacturing advanced batteries for hybrid cars, and $255 million for a polar icebreaker and other "priority procurements" by the Coast Guard
...not to mention the $85 million for building/enhancing Milwaukee Public School edifices...
Obey makes his assertions using typical Liberal ontology: "It all depends on the meaning of the word 'is'", and he hopes that you are stupid enough to let it pass.
Gee. Lying about ontology.
It must be that your eyes DO lie, eh?
Ben Nelson was making the same assertion on Kudlow last night. He did allow that there were some "sacred cows" that may be in there. Looks like one man's pork is another man's beef.
ReplyDeleteAnecote in Dick Goolembiewski’s "Milwaukee Television History" (highly recommended for anyone interested in Milwaukee history, not just its broadcast history)In the 1970's, WTMJ's enterprising investigative reporter Bob Sherwood discovered that Kohls Foods was selling ground beef mixed with pork, but labeled all beef. The owner (and presently 'Nobody's Senator) Herb Kohl personally pressured station management not to run the story.
ReplyDeleteTells you something about Herbert's "ethics". As well as an abiding inability to properly charaterize pork.
