Congregation for Rites has banned use of the term "Yahweh" in songs, readings, etc. during liturgical services.
The letter was dated 6/29/08 and undersigned by Abp. Ranjith for Cdl. Arinze.
Since classroom-time is not "liturgical service," you may continue referring to Swampy as Yahweh....
After all, wasn't he the subject of Schutte's ditty?

This is interesting. Most of the rest of the English world uses either the Jerusalum Bible or the New Jerusalem Bible for their liturgical readings. Both render what the KJB often renders Lord as Yahweh.
ReplyDelete& THIS WILL STOP THE MOONBAT LITURGISTS WHO IGNORE THE REST OF THE RULES ALREADY HOW?
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck is wrong with "Yahweh"? It's the closest to the original language we can translate, so I'm not sure I see why anyone would ban its use.
ReplyDeleteFor the very good reason that the Jews NEVER pronounced that name (except once/year, and only the high-priest said it).
ReplyDeleteMatter of fact, emily, the Greek Septuagint translated the term "Kyrios"--which in Latin is "Dominus," (Lord.) Those are the terms they used, not the tetragrammon YHWH.
The early Xtians were, as you know, Jews. They simply did not use the word out of respect for their fathers...
